Julia A. Shinkareva is an award-winning journalist, photographer and writer based in New York, NY. Julia was born in Moscow, Russia and raised in Milan, Italy.

After many years of hard creative and journalistic work across the globe she settled in the United States to proceed with her artistic journey.

Initially pursuing a career in fashion and lifestyle journalism, Julia was hired by the British Culture Trip in London as a photo reporter and writer for Europe and Asia, where she completed her first editorial assignments. Working primarily in long form documentary, Julia has photographed projects in Japan, Italy, Russia, Germany and France, as well as notable projects across the United States. Julia works with a painterly softness and sensitivity to her subjects, heightening detail and nuance. She became interested in street photography in early teens. She works with light, shadow, architecture and city inhabitants most of the time immersing herself fully in the big city life.

Julia holds membership of National Writers Union in the US, and International Federation of Journalists in Paris, France. She is fluent in English, Italian, Russian & Portuguese. Julia got her Master’s Degree in IULM Milano in 2013, and got her photojournalism certification at Forma School of NABA in Italy. Her work was exhibited in LIC, New York and Isola, Milan. Julia has a unique approach to modern storytelling and considers herself a narrator. Be that the visual or textual form of art.
